The International Defence Equipment Catalogue (IDEC) consists of 3 volumes: Volume 1 contains an editorial part describing organisational and procurement details of the forces of various countries, the FSC-system based upon the Cataloguing Handbook H 2-1 of the US Department of the Army Supply Bulletin SB 708-21, edition Sept. 1986, followed by an assignment guide for FSC numbers to equipment.A tradename index and an alphabetical list of participating companies complete Volume 1. Volume 2 and 3 contain descriptions of products and services offered by these firms.
This Catalogue is arranged in two main parts. These are intended to form a guide for companies and organisations who wish to sell military equipment to other countries as to what procedure has to be adopted and to whom to make their initial approaches, etc.
On the other hand the Catalogue serves as a helpful compilation of equipment - fielded or under development - devices, and/or services for potential customers.
In many cases the appropriate country’s Military Attache is the authority to be contacted first; he will best know how to proceed with any inquiries from prospective customers for the country he is representing.
Useful information on the country’s procurement organisation is given in the first part of the Catalogue which consists of a descriptive account of the organisational arrangements for procurement in the country accompanied by a map showing the location of the participating companies in it, thus enabling delegations travelling the country concerned to more efficiently plan their business trips.
The second part of the Catalogue (volumes 2 and 3) contains information on the actual equipment, devices, and services as obtained from the participating companies.
