The International Defence Equipment Catalogue (IDEC) consists of 2 volumes: Volume 1 contains an editorial part describing organisational and procurement details of the forces of various countries, the FSC-system based upon the Cataloguing Handbook H 2-1 of the US Department of the Army, followed by an assignment guide for FSC numbers to equipment.
A tradename index and an alphabetical list of participating companies complete Volume 1.
Volume 2 contains descriptions of products and services offered by these firms.
These are intended to provide a base guide for companies and organizations wishing to sell equipment and services of use to the international military community. The guide provides extensive detail on the various procurement processes and systems of all major countries active in this market along with details of initial points of contact within both industry and government.
In many case the initial point of contact for interested parties will be the locally based defence attache or foreign trade organization. Briefings on the exact procedure can be obtained through this direct contact. The IDEC will prove to be an invaluable tool in planning each phase of any subsequent approach to the right offices and departments within government procurement offices. In addition the IDEC provides the latest basic country data and a map reference for over 120 countries providing a reference tool for the business community.
